A medieval fortress now encompassed by a city

Note: the tour includes many on route tours - I decided to highlight this one.

In medieval times Bellinzona had to protect itself from other city states, especially Milan. Therefore, after the first castle was built very high up and more wars were happening, this great fortress was built and surrounded many import buildings and homes that made up the city at the time.
